DO YOU HAVE A GO-BAG READY FOR YOUR SENIOR?

Start Packing Your Go-Bag Now

Training and collaboration are the essentials in all areas of care giving. This is why a lot of families profit from an easy act of preparation named the “ready bag.”

The ready bag is a compact backpack or similar bag equipped in advance for both the caregiver and the care recipient. This not only speeds up the process of getting out the door, it makes sure that both of you have what you need to refrain from confusion.

What’s inside the Ready Bag

Some of the insides are logically a matter of personal preference and how much you can carry while remaining comfortable. Below are some suggestions for your loved one’s ready bag.

Patient Facts Sheet

Arrange a fact sheet that you can distribute among healthcare professionals to offer the fundamental information they’ll need to assess and care for your loved one. This fact sheet should include:

  • His or her full legal name. Preferably, it will match insurance and other documents. Be constant with the use of initials, courtesy titles and suffixes like Jr. or Sr. Ideal name or what they like to go by.

  • List of any existing conditions or illnesses.

  • All current medications, this includes over-the-counter medicines, along with dosages and schedule.

  • Allergies or bad reactions to any medications or foods.

  • Normal healthcare providers; This should include names and phone numbers. As well as including the main care physician and any specialists, as well as the specific conditions.

  • Special diet This includes low sodium, diabetic, halal, kosher, vegetarian.

  • Communication problems. Ask yourself whether the loved one gets confused often, has a speech or hearing impairment, or is more comfortable speaking in a language other than English.

  • Preferred faith tradition.

  • Your information, this should include name, relationship and contact information. Also, that of another trusted family member or friend. Make sure you include mobile numbers as well.
