Although summer may be most of our favorite seasons, if you cannot forget that it can be dangerous, towards are much appreciated seniors. People above the age of 65 are less likely to sense and react to changes in temperature, giving them a higher chance to have heat stroke and other heat-related illnesses.

Seniors have sensitive skin, which means they should stay away from sunscreens with alcohol or preservatives that can create irritation.
Drinking a lot of Water: You may have received this advice a lot, but even more when it gets hot outside. Being dehydrated is the main cause of numerous heat-related health issues. Make sure to encourage seniors to drink an abundance of water while being outside during the summer, even if they’re not thirsty. Make sure to try to limit alcoholic and caffeinated beverages because they can further dehydration.
Wear the most appropriate Clothing: Nobody enjoys sitting inside on a nice day, however it’s imperative to make sure that seniors have on the best clothing before going outside for a fun summer. Lightweight, bright-colored clothing and a full coverage hat will keep seniors cool and safe from the sun.
Take breaks often: If you decide to go outside with your elderly loved one on a hot, summer day, make sure you take frequent breaks. Go slow and easy, and find a shaded spot to sit and relax. Make sure to have a glass of water every so often. Stay away from any activity that is too laborious when it's very hot.
Stay in air-conditioned areas: When it’s extremely hot outside, seniors should have easy access to air conditioning. Fans cannot be relied used as a prime cooling device. Make sure to always have a working air conditioner before the heat says hello. If air conditioning isn’t provided, make sure there is a place to go to cool off from the extreme heat.
Understand the warning signs of heat illnesses: When the weather is hot, if a loved one experiences problems such as dizziness, nausea, chest pain, or fainting and breathing problems, you should find a medical assistant immediately.
Summer is supposed be enjoyable and relaxing for everyone. Make sure that seniors are out of harm's way during these warmer months doing routine checkups.
